  Cap N'Bells

Gordon Peters
A.jpg (1469 bytes)s Gordon superbly demonstrates in his one man show Cap N' Bells. Court Jesters were usually far from foolish. They had to be practised Comedians, Politicians, Diplomats all rolled into a tightly rehearsed act. The reward could be vast sums of money, along with special court privileges.

The wearers of the "Motley" were true professionals in a class of their own.To misjudge the mood of the monarch, to make an inappropriate jest simply meant no further performances. In some Courts this meant a career cut short by banishment.

Gordon Peters himself notes: 'interestingly, the Court Jesters antics and sense of comedy bear close resemblance to many of today's entertainers. Indeed some of today's comedy acts owe more to the well-rehearsed comic precision of the 'Court Fool' than they or their audience may realise....the acts themselves may have hanged, but the tightrope any comedian walks hasn't....establishing the bond between entertainer and audience remains as difficult now as it was then....

This was a really fun way of enjoying a "lecturetainment" as he calls it. We all laughed our way throughout and learned a great deal at the same time.....
Sunbury Arts Association.

The show was not only hilarious but also historically interesting. Gordon Peters had the audience in the palm of his hand throughout
and they all obviously had a very good time.....a perfect little show for an intimate rendezvous such as a theatre club or festival......

I have had the pleasure of engaging Gordon Peters to entertain our
Club members on a number of occasions. He is a highly talented entertainer
who can be relied upon to give immense pleasure enjoyment to his audiences.
He has the ability to take a tough looking audience and soften them up in just a matter of minutes. His material is excellent and, combined with his personality and years of experience, he will soon have everyone in good spirits.
There is usually plenty of laughter when Gordon is on stage.
Indeed, his Granada routine is a comedy classic.
I have no hesitation in recommending Gordon Peters most highly.

Graham Jenkins. The Arts & Heritage Club

Gordon started in show business with the sole purpose of saving enough money for his passage back to S.Rhodesia (as it was then)
That was 50 years ago - and he's still saving!
In this book he tells us of the ups and downs of show business - and everything in between.- almost!
